About Charlopin-Parizot Bourgogne Côte d'Or Tête Cuvée

Many consider the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru AOC to be one of the least exciting terroirs in the southern Côte de Nuit (north of Burgundy's Côte d'Or). However, others claim that, in the right hands, it can produce some of the best wines in France. Such hands include those of Philippe Charlopin, one of the most renowned and remarkable winemakers on the current wine scene.

Without detracting from the reason of those who do not see much appeal in the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, the truth is there must be something about this area for Philippe Charlopin to continue his efforts here. In fact, if there is one good thing to know, it is to know how to get the best out of this terroir. His origins are here, in the hectare inherited from his parents with which he began his independent career in 1977. Both his childhood and youth were also spent here, among vines and vineyards where he learned the basics and fundamentals. All this tradition is maintained today, always with a natural and minimal intervention philosophy, with manual work and biodynamic approaches that fully respect both the plant and the bunches to be harvested. Today, his son Yann accompanies him in these tasks, picking up the baton of a whole Burgundian tradition.

The lessons and learning continue in the cellar, where Charlopin-Parizot Bourgogne Côte d'Or Tête Cuvée is also vinified with minimal intervention. This will allow the pinot noir to effortlessly reflect the terroir and the clay and limestone soils typical of this region. Ageing and subsequent stabilisation and bottling will be the final steps in this process. With a lot of hard work and effort, Philippe Charlopin managed to grow and extend his wineries to other areas such as Morey-Saint-Denis and Vougeo. However, the Charmes-Chambertin AOC has always remained there. True to its origins, Philippe Charlopin knows how to get the best out of this area. He understands it and knows it like the back of his hand. Discover it with him and Charlopin-Parizot Bourgogne Côte d'Or Tête Cuvée. You won’t regret it.
