About Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

It is said that Charlemagne, known as Charlemagne in French, the illustrious emperor of the Holy Roman Empire who ruled over much of Western Europe during the 8th century, had a profound interest in agriculture and viticulture. He held an unparalleled appreciation for wine and promoted the planting of vineyards across various regions of his empire, including Burgundy. In tribute to this historical connection and the legacy of viticulture in Burgundy during the Middle Ages, Corton-Charlemagne, an appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) situated in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy renowned for its white wines, is named after Charlemagne. Here, Domaine Bonneau du Martray is devoted to crafting two wines from an ancient vineyard perched in an extraordinary location. Two Grands Crus: Corton and Corton-Charlemagne, both with a longstanding tradition in their production.

In the case of Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, this white wine's vineyards are nestled on the slopes of the Corton hill at altitudes ranging from 280 to 330 meters above sea level. The soils are limestone-based, and the sunny exposure is optimal for the chardonnay grape. The cultivation is entirely organic with biodynamic treatments, and the harvest is done manually at the peak of ripeness. Subsequently, in the winery, the grapes are meticulously selected and gently pressed, and the resulting juice ferments with indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature. Afterwards, the wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels and an additional 6 months in stainless steel vats.

Originating from a vineyard bestowed by Emperor Charlemagne in 775, Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru represents the pinnacle of the Corton Charlemagne appellation. An exclusive bottle that honors a unique legacy, its vibrant yet powerful character renders it exceptional.
