About David Duband Bourgogne Rouge
Burgundy, one of the most prestigious wine regions in France and around the world, offers precious gems from renowned winemakers who know how to make the most of incomparable terroirs and climatology. A scenario where starting from scratch is not at all easy and, much less to be successful. David Duband, a young winemaker, has been one of the few who has been able to stand out victoriously among such strong competition. If at the beginning he was labelled as a modernist winemaker with concentrated wines, over time his meticulousness and dedication has led him to evolve to a more elegant and velvety style, always in search of cleanliness but also intensity. All this work has made him a leading figure in the Côte d'Orvineyards.
His wine David Duband Bourgogne Rouge, a single varietal Pinot Noir in the purest Burgundian style, comes from 45-year-old vineyards located between the villages of Chambolle Musigny and Morey St Denis, in the AOC Bourgogne. Grapes grown organically without the use of chemical products altering the natural balance of the terroir and which, once they reach the optimum moment of ripeness, are harvested and selected by hand. In the winery, vinification is carried out with 40% of the whole bunch and during the 17 days the grapes ferment, 5 to 7 treadings and the occasional pumping-over are carried out. After pressing, the wine is clarified and racked into barrels (30% new oak barrels and 70% barrels of 1, 2 and 3 years old) where it remains for 14 months. Finally the wine rests in tanks for 3 months and is bottled without fining or filtering.
With this wine, David Duband demonstrates how tradition doesn’t have to be at odds with modernity. David Duband Bourgogne Rouge is a pleasant, velvety and very elegant wine which makes it clear that Burgundy is here to stay.
2019 |
David Duband Bourgogne Rouge 2019 is a smooth red wine with intense aromas of ripe black and red fruit, floral notes and hints of oak. On the palate it’s lively, velvety and very elegant. A wine with fine and light tannins under a spiced background and a long and mineral finish. |
