About COZ's Pop

COZ's Pop is a natural, ecological and vegan orange wine made by the COZ's winery with the Vital variety in the Portuguese denomination Vinho de Portugal, in Lisbon. 
 
The COZ's project was set up by Tiago Teles and Antonio Marques da Cruz in the Figueira da Foz area, 8 kilometres from the sea. They cultivate some old vineyards that used to be owned by the great winemaker José Mendoça. Following his unfortunate death in a car accident, the current owners decided to take over and begin producing wines from old vines and native varieties, a pure reflection of the terroir. 
 
COZ's Pop comes from old vines planted in the protected landscape of the Serra de Montejunto. The vines are aged over 40 years old and planted in clay-calcareous soils. They are ecologically cultivated without the use of chemical products that could damage the natural balance of the terroir and the vines. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness.
 
In the winery, the COZ's Pop grapes macerate with the skins for 4 days in vats and ferment spontaneously with native yeasts in new 20-hl cement tanks. When the wine is ready, it is bottled without filtering, clarifying or adding sulphites.
 
Carrying the name Pop, as in ‘popular’, COZ's Pop is quite a statement of intent. A rich, well-defined wine that is very easy to drink.

 

2018 COZ's Pop 2018 is an aromatic orange wine with pronounced stone fruit aromas on the nose, herbaceous undertones, and hints of salinity. On the palate, it is delicate, sophisticated, and persistent. It displays fine-grained tannins and an exquisitely mineral finish.
