About Claus Preisinger Kalkstein Blaufränkisch
Claus Preisinger Kalkstein Blaufränkisch is a natural, organic and biodynamic barrel-aged red wine made by Claus Preisinger with the Blaufränkisch variety in Burgenland (Austria).
Claus Preisinger's winery is located in the town of Gols, next to Lake Neusiedlersee in Burgenland (Austria). He made his first wine when he was just 20 years old, and he has now expanded the 3 hectares of his family vineyard to 19 hectares. Claus is known for being the first Austrian winemaker to make wines through skin-contact fermentation in Georgian amphoras, as well as for being the youngest member of the Pannobile group, which was established in Burgenland to protect the unique character of the local terroir and native varieties.
Claus Preisinger Kalkstein Blaufränkisch is made with Blaufränkisch, a variety native in the Austro-Hungarian region that is planted in fossil-rich limestone soils. These grapes are cultivated through 100% organic agriculture, using biodynamic treatments based on natural fertilisers, plants and moon phases. They ripen late and are harvested manually.
In the winery, the Claus Preisinger Kalkstein Blaufränkisch grapes are gently crushed and then spontaneously fermented in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts. Finally the wine ages in used barrels for 6 months. It is finally bottled without being filtered, clarified or adding sulphur.
Claus Preisinger Kalkestein Blaufränkisch is a pure, expressive and balanced wine. A easy to drink red that probably won’t last long.
