Clarabella Franciacorta Brut

Tasting notes Clarabella Franciacorta Brut
Franciacorta Brut Organic. 28 months in bottle.
Clarabella Franciacorta Brut is a sparkling wine with a straw-yellow hue. On the nose, it reveals aromas of ripe apple and pear, accompanied by subtle pastry notes. On the palate, it is fresh and smooth, with a savoury flavour and a creamy profile that makes it very pleasing to the taste.

About Clarabella Franciacorta Brut
In June 1972, the patients of the Trieste asylum wrote to the President of the province to save Marco, an aged horse destined for slaughter. The request, penned as if by the horse himself, asked that Marco be allowed to stay at the centre after his retirement. The petition was granted, and Marco remained at the asylum under the care of the patients. This act was seen as a recognition of the dignity of the inmates. Inspired, they built a large blue horse sculpture to be paraded and displayed around the town. However, when they attempted to take it out of the centre, they realized it couldn't fit through the door, so they resolved the issue by breaking through the hospital walls. Thus, Marco Cavallo became a symbol of freedom and humanization in psychiatry. This symbol has also been adopted by Clarabella, the social agricultural cooperative for job placement in Franciacorta, Lombardy, Italy. With various productive activities, it has been a winery since 2002, and its vineyards have blue-painted posts, reminiscent of Marco Cavallo. In addition to creating job opportunities for people with physical and mental disabilities, Clarabella is part of the Consortium for the protection of Franciacorta, a unique term that defines a territory, a production method, and a wine.
From their vineyards stretching between Lake Iseo and Franciacorta, they produce Clarabella Franciacorta Brut, a blanc de blancs made from 100% Chardonnay grapes, which are organically cultivated to minimize the impact of human activity on the environment, preserve biodiversity, and reduce water usage. In the winery, the selected and destemmed grapes are gently pressed and cold-settled for 36 hours. The resulting must ferments with selected yeasts (15% in barrels). Then, a second fermentation takes place in the bottle according to the méthode champenoise, where it ages on the lees for 20-28 months. Finally, disgorgement is carried out, and the corresponding dosage is added.
Considering that the mythical event of Marco Cavallo was the tip of the iceberg of a comprehensive program for the humanization of patients, Clarabella is an extension of this movement. A project that not only emphasizes social dignity but also the winemaking region of Franciacorta. Clarabella Franciacorta Brut is a testament to this.
