About Cisteller Xarel·lo

Cisteller, in Spanish cestero, is much more than the name of a small family winery in the Penedès. It is, in fact, a profound statement of intent. For centuries, the cisteller was a pivotal figure in traditional viticulture. They hand-wove the baskets used for harvesting, transporting grapes, and accompanying the wine's lifecycle. Their craft spoke of patience, skill, and respect for natural materials. It was a manual, silent, and essential occupation. Precisely like the one that inspires every bottle from this young winery in the Penedès.

Cisteller was established in 2022, quite literally at the hands of Jessica Madigan and Sergi Canals. She hails from Florida, he from Catalonia, and they met amidst test tubes and fermentations at the University of Davis (California). After exploring some of the world's most iconic wine regions together, they decided to return home; to the family estate of El Sot, in the Ordal mountains (Subirats).

There, surrounded by marine and calcareous soils, they cultivate vineyards organically, vinify with surgical precision and minimal intervention, and craft wines that blend technical knowledge, emotion, and a profound sensitivity to the land. Like Cisteller Xarel·lo, a wine made from three plots, three expressions of the same calcareous heartbeat. Fermented in steel, amphorae, and barrels, and aged on lees with patience and without haste. There is no filtration, no stabilization. Just texture, energy, salinity, and character. A xarel·lo that seems handwoven...

Cisteller Xarel·lo 2022 is a gem of a white wine that captivates from the very first sip. Its bouquet conjures up a springtime meadow, with fresh notes of lemon and Mediterranean herbs blending harmoniously. On the palate, it is light and well-balanced, featuring a gentle hint of lemon panna cotta, accompanied by subtle nuances of wet stone and an elegant toasted finish with a slight touch of sesame. The 2022 vintage provided perfect climatic conditions, endowing this wine with a unique expression, making it an ideal choice for those seeking freshness and delicacy in a glass.
