About Cisteller Malvasía de Sitges

There are wines that seem destined to close circles, to bring back to the present something that appeared to be confined to the annals of history. Malvasía de Sitges is one such case. A noble, itinerant, aromatic grape, steeped in tradition and legends. It is said to have arrived in Catalonia with the Almogavars in the 14th century, yet by the 15th century, it was a symbol of prestige, even appearing in the renowned literary work by Joanot Martorell, "Tirant lo Blanc." It was a wine for kings, physicians, poets. And for a time, it was almost lost.

Fortunately, there are those who remember what is worth preserving.

Jessica Madigan and Sergi Canals, the winemaking duo behind Cisteller, chose to lay down roots—and vines—at El Sot, the family estate in the Ordal Mountains, in Penedès (Catalonia). There, on clay-limestone soils with a strong marine influence, they lovingly cultivate this Malvasía de Sitges, adhering to organic principles, with a clear philosophy of respecting the character of the land, without embellishments or shortcuts.

The harvest is done by hand. The grapes are pressed whole, without maceration. They ferment slowly, in both steel and barrel, and age on the lees for eight months, without stabilization or filtration. The result is a wine that not only speaks of Penedès but also of care, memory, and emotion.

Cisteller Malvasía de Sitges is a white wine with soul, texture, and a delicate tension that invites reflection and toasting to everything that deserves a revival.
