About Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Like many other prestigious wineries located in the Pauillac appellation in the Bordeaux wine region of France, the history of Château Pichon Longueville dates back to the 17th century, when it was established as a single estate. However, in 1850, after the death of the owner, the estate was divided in two for his two sons. One of these parts became Château Pichon Longueville Baron, while the other became Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. The latter, popularly known as Pichon Comtesse, acquired this name in honour of its heiress, Countess Virginia. Since then, the estate has been managed by women over the years and has been recognised as one of the great châteaux in the Bordeaux region, standing out internationally for its high-quality and elegant red wines.

Its namesake wine, Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande , is a coupage made from cabernet sauvignon, merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc. Vines with an average age of 35 years are planted on deep gravelly soils with clay, sandstone and limestone, and are cultivated with respect and precision to obtain the best raw material. In the cellar, the grapes are meticulously selected and destemmed for vinification. Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts at controlled temperatures and the wine is then aged in French oak barrels for 18 months, 60% of which are new oak.

The result is Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, a great Pauillac wine with a woman's name whose history, tradition and quality are reflected in every bottle. Classic Bordeaux elegance, the majestic style of the estate, and the pure character of Pauillac.
