About Château Brane-Cantenac

Château Brane-Cantenac is a legend in Bordeaux. An estate dating back to the 18th century that boasts some of the finest vineyards in the Médoc and where one of the most acclaimed wines of the area was already being made, even before the 1855 classification.

Baron de Brane, known as the “Napoleon of the vines”, was instrumental in the popularity of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape in the Médoc and, knowing the exceptional value of these vineyards, he bought the estate from the Groce family in 1833, and named it after himself.

In 1902 the Lurton family acquired the estate and, after four generations, they have succeeded in reaffirming the value of the exquisite terroir of Château Brane-Cantenac , making it one of the most sought-after names in Margaux.

This is the birthplace of Château Brane-Cantenac, the flagship of the estate, a red wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes grown on Terrace IV, an exceptional terroir with soils composed mainly of gravel. In the winery, after a gentle extraction to encourage the development of a beautiful structure, the wine is aged in new oak barrels where it will be refined.

Today, Châteu Brane-Cantenac works under the principles of organic agriculture, respecting the unique characteristics of each plot and each grape. This has further enhanced the high quality of the wines produced here, wines that are undoubtedly faithful representatives of the characteristic elegance of Bordeaux and the exceptional terroir they come from.
