About Celler Sanromà Rústic

When we speak of rusticity in a wine, it is easy for the mind to drift towards the essentials: village, authenticity, and origin. It evokes a sense of something unembellished, honest, almost like a whispered conversation with the landscape. It is precisely from this notion that Celler Sanromà Rústic (Rustic in Catalan) emerges, a wine that seeks not to disguise anything but to bottle a place.

The Sanromà Calaf family, with four generations of winemaking tradition in Vilarrodona, Tarragona (Catalonia), has developed a project that regards the vineyard with absolute respect. Today, it is Edu Sanromà who continues this legacy with a clear philosophy: minimal intervention, organic viticulture, and the desire for the wine to be a faithful translation of the landscape.

The production of Rústic is key to understanding its character. It is neither a linear nor predictable wine. Approximately 40% ferments in stainless steel, preserving the freshness and the most direct expression of the macabeo. The remainder ferments with its skins for 8 days, adding texture, structure, and a deeper dimension. Afterwards, the wine rests for 2 months on its lees, refining the ensemble and adding volume without losing its essence.

Celler Sanromà Rústic is not a wine that attempts to fit into a perfect category. It is more a way of understanding the land: direct, honest, and with a village memory. A wine that demonstrates that macabeo, when handled with respect and freedom, can be far more expressive than it is sometimes allowed to be.
