About Castell del Remei 1780
Castell del Remei 1780 is a red wine from the D.O. Costers del Segre crafted by Castell del Remei, comprising a blend of cabernet sauvignon, tempranillo, garnacha, merlot, and syrah.
Castell del Remei is a distinguished benchmark within the Costers del Segre appellation (Lleida). Its origins trace back to 1780 when Ignasi Girona Vilanova, influenced by French viticulture, began applying the knowledge acquired in Bordeaux to his father's estate. Thus, he became the first producer of fine aged wines in Catalonia and the fifth oldest registered winery in Spain. Since 1982, the business has been owned by the Cusiné family, who possess a long-standing winemaking tradition and aim to pay tribute to this date. Led by Tomás Cusiné, the project involves restructuring the vineyards, renewing the wine's image, and enhancing the castle's oenotourism appeal.
Castell del Remei 1780 originates from estate-owned vineyards located in the subzone of Artesa de Segre (Lleida) at an average altitude of between 700 and 800 metres above sea level. Planted on loamy soils with a significant presence of gravel, they are traditionally cultivated, and the harvest is conducted at the optimal moment of ripeness.
Once harvested, the grape clusters are transported with utmost care to the winery to prevent deterioration. This marks the beginning of the winemaking process. Initially, Castell del Remei 1780 ferments in stainless steel tanks under temperature control, followed by 18 months of maturation in new American and French oak barrels. Finally, it is bottled and aged for a minimum of 24 months in the bottle before being released to the market.
Castell del Remei 1780 pays homage to the year the winery was established. This illustrious wine from Castell del Remei features a blend that varies slightly each year to achieve intensity, structure, and balance.

| 2018 | Castell del Remei 1780 2018 is a richly concentrated red wine, boasting a luminous cherry hue with vibrant liveliness. Olfactorily, it is intricate, initiating with hints of fruit that mature and unfold into the quintessential aromas of oak aging (smokiness, spices, chocolate, delicate herbs). On the palate, it is rounded and refined, harmonious, with mineral undertones and nuances of dried fruit. The tannins are firm. The finish is replete with ripe fruit. |

| 2007 | An elegant entry in the mouth with volume and marked by a profound tannic taste with mature tannins and a very well balanced acidity that brings a freshness to the wine. A long finish, slightly bitter and very persistant, leaving roasted nuances at retro-olfaction. Pretty and intense picota cherry colour, medium-high depth with garnet edges. Shiny. Abundant tears stain the glass. A very expressive, intense and clean aroma in which the first aromas perceived are the actual aromas of its aging - smoky and spicy notes with balsamic nuances. Once opened it gives intense notes of red fruits, and pleasantly roasted mineral notes. |
