About Carlos Sánchez Buradòn Las Plegarias Blanco

In the world of oenology, when you mention the D.O. Ca Rioja (in the north of Spain) you’re talking about the very best. Because of its prestige and tradition, anyone involved in wine would be delighted to make wine from the 54,000 hectares of vineyards that form part of this denomination. This was true for Carlos Sánchez, winemaker and viticulturist who from the beginning was very clear that sooner rather than later he was going to end up making his wine in Sonsierra, in the area of San Vicente and Labastida, in the heart of La Rioja Alta. “It is a magical place and when I discovered it, it was clear to me that this is where I was going to settle and set up my own project,” says Carlos Sanchez. And that is how Carlos Sánchez Buradòn Las Plegarias Blanco was born.

Carlos Sánchez is a winemaker without a winery. His base is within the facilities of the Labastida cooperative. The raw material comes directly from Los Terrenos, a plot of old vineyards that this winemaker has rented in San Vicente, with chalky white soils. Here, the vines lie at 497 metres above sea level, influenced by an oceanic climate.

In terms of winemaking, Carlos Sánchez Buradòn Las Plegarias Blanco is a wine reminiscent of the great Rioja whites. Macerated with skins for 24 hours, it brings out the best of the Viura. Barrel fermentation and 10 months aging on lees put the finishing touches on this wine, a little gem from the young La Rioja winemakers who are catching people’s attention.

This wine stands out for its floral and fruity aromas, it is not very intense but is very rich. Its remarkable and tasty acidity stands out on the palate.

Buradón Viura 2020 is a lusciously creamy and intricate white, imbued with a pronounced minerality. Exhibiting a deep, intense yellow hue that is both clear and luminous, it is noteworthy for its expressive bouquet, brimming with citrus and fruity notes (green apple, white peach) alongside floral undertones. On the palate, it is rich and exquisitely flavourful, culminating in a lingering finish.
