Celebrate International Chardonnay Day.
This white grape is so well thought of that it even has its own day. May 21, 2020 is the day we celebrate Chardonnay this year.
Any self-respecting wine lover will be looking forward to International Chardonnay Day. It involves an annual celebration to honour this world-renowned variety; falling on the Thursday before the last Monday in May. So, in 2020, it falls on May 21.

It all started in 2009, when a group of social media managers met in Napa Valley (USA) to share their wines while tweeting about it. That is when they decided to create a unified voice with the hashtag #ChardonnayDay to remind Chardonnay lovers that this popular variety can be enjoyed all around the world.
If you want to take part, read on as we suggest seven wines to help you enjoy the full potential of this international grape.
7 Chardonnay wines to celebrate #ChardonnayDay
1- Cloudy Bay Chardonnay 2017
If there is one place where the Chardonnay variety reigns, it is the Wairau Valley in Marlborough (New Zealand). Cloudy Bay, one of the first wineries in the area, was quick to realise this, and that is how they have ended up with an exquisite control over the variety. The proof of this is their white wine with fruity intensity and brilliant acidity.
2- Planeta Chardonnay 2018

The Planeta winery is one of the main producers in Sicily (Italy), and their Planeta Chardonnay is considered an iconic wine from this island. It is a dry, complex and fresh Chardonnay that thanks to the refreshing style of owners Francesca, Alessio and Santi Planeta, has completely changed the perception of Sicilian wines around the world.
3-Joseph Drouhin Mâcon-Villages 2018

If you are looking for an introduction to the French region of Burgundy without breaking the bank, Joseph Drouhin Mâcon-Villages is a great choice. It is a classic from one of the areas producing some of the best Chardonnays in the world. Deliciously floral, fruity and mineral that meets all expectations of this great white variety.
4- Sons de Prades 2017

This white wine is a tribute to the Prades mountains in Tarragona (Catalonia). This mountain range lies at an altitude of about 500 metres on clay-calcareous soils where the Chardonnay grape has an incredible expression. Made by Bodegas Torres, a family business with 150 years of experience, this is a mature, creamy and very deep white wine.
5- Domaine des Marnes Blanches Chardonnay les Molates Ouillé 2016

As suggested by the name “Ouillé”, a term widely used in Jura
to describe its spectacular floral character, this wine is a true statement of intent. The owners, Géraud and Pauline Frémont, a young couple who and champions of minimal intervention, have created a brilliant Chardonnay wine that is true to its nature.
6- Andreas Tscheppe Salamander Chardonnay 2017

Lying very close to the Slovenian border, Austrian Andreas Tscheppe makes this amazing Chardonnay using natural principles. He is an oenologist with a unique handle on white varieties and biodynamic practices in Lower Austria. This intense, lively and original Andreas Tscheppe Salamander Chardonnay is proof of his excellent work.
