About Beronia Selección 198 Barricas

Beronia Selección 198 Barricas is a barrel-aged red wine made by the Beronia winery with Tempranillo, the leading variety in the D.O.Ca. Rioja.

The name Beronia comes from the Berones, the Celtic tribe who lived in what we now know as Rioja in the third century BC. Founded in 1973 by a group of entrepreneurs in Ollauri, in the heart of Rioja Alta, the wines made here are known for their long barrel aging. A true Beronia style that continues under the current ownership of the Familia de Bodegas de González Byass.

Beronia Selección 198 Barricas comes from old vines aged over 60 years old. They are planted in poor, sandy soils with sediments, clay and a little alkaline. They enjoy a continental microclimate protected from the Ebro Valley winds. They use traditional and environmentally friendly agriculture and the harvest is carried out at the optimum point of ripeness.

In the winery, the highest quality clusters are selected and then undergo a cold pre-fermentation maceration. Beronia Selección 198 Barricas ferments at a constant temperature of less than 26ºC with periodic pumping over. It then ages for 24 months in mixed American and French oak barrels. It finishes by aging in the bottle for 24 months before leaving the winery.

Beronia Selección 198 Barricas is a red wine made what it is by choosing the best new and mixed barrels, where it ages for a long time. A true Beronia style that reveals this winery’s personality.
