About Bass Phillip Estate Pinot Noir
At the end of the 18th century, the English sent Captain James Cook to the south of the world, with the aim of finding Terra Australis, the Land of the South. This is how he arrived at a destination populated by aborigines who lived in harmony with nature. Three centuries later, in contrast to the great cosmopolitan cities, the sixth largest country in the world has a population of barely 24 million and vast uninhabited areas of land that invite adventure. Shrouded in this aura of mystery and with a daring nature, Phillip Jones founded a winery in Leongatha, Victoria in 1979 named after George Bass and Arthur Phillip, two explorers who mapped this part of the country. From their beginnings with 3.5 hectares of vineyards to the present day with 14 hectares, they have become one of the most sought after premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay producers in Australia.
Their Bass Phillip Estate Pinot Noir is a red wine made from the Pinot Noir variety. Grapes from the original estate located in the large rural region of Gippsland and grown organically since 1993. This is a four-hectare vineyard with no irrigation, very little spacing and very limited production. In the winery, the wine is vinified in an open stainless steel tank with regular cap plunges to extract colour and flavour. After fermentation, the wine is racked by gravity into a combination of new and old French oak barrels where it stays for 15 to 18 months. Finally, the wine is bottled without clarifying or filtering.
The result is Bass Phillip Estate Pinot Noir, a benchmark wine of the power, personality and persistence of Australian wines. A collector's Pinot Noir for those who like to venture into the world of Australian wine.
2019 | Bass Phillip Estate Pinot Noir 2019 is a smooth red wine with aromas of red fruit, notes of dried flowers and hints of spice. On the palate it is broad, flavoursome and powerful. A medium-bodied wine with velvety tannins, balanced acidity and a persistent finish. |
