About Anís del Mono Sweet

Legend has it that Vicente Bosch, one of the co-founders of the distillery José Bosch y hermano, would often tell his friends setting sail for the American continent, “Bring me back one or two monkeys.” Whether due to miscommunication or sheer coincidence, the travelers misunderstood the request and, instead of bringing back a couple at most, they arrived in Badalona with 102 macaques. All were donated to the Barcelona Zoo, save for one that remained at the company. Hence the name: the Anís del Mono factory.

Whether or not this tale holds true, what is undeniable is that this animal—so closely associated with the distillery's image—has become an indispensable symbol in Spanish culture. That, and of course, its Anís del Mono Dulce. Who can recall a Christmas without this iconic bottle? Who doesn't remember singing to the tune of its cut-glass? Anís del Mono Dulce is a timeless classic that, despite the years, never goes out of style. This is primarily due to its quality, where only completely natural products are used, distilled in copper stills. Through this process, the essential oils of Anís del Mono Dulce are obtained, which are then blended with cane sugar, demineralized water, and neutral alcohol. This procedure is conducted in the distillation room, equipped with eight original stills from the 19th century. Once macerated, this blend is stirred, filtered, and finally bottled, yielding this unmistakable liquor.

As a final note: did you know that the famous bottle was inspired by a perfume flask from Place Vendôme in Paris that Vicente Bosch used to purchase for his wife? It seems that the entrepreneur paid royalties to replicate the style, thereby achieving a unique and unmistakable design that has become a symbol and an emblem.
