About Abadía da Cova Volta

The establishment of a Denomination of Origin (D.O.) primarily serves to implement a system for the protection and regulation of the quality and characteristics of wines originating from a specific geographical region. In the case of Ribeira Sacra, one of the oldest in Galicia (Spain), it was constituted in 1995, and its success was swift, achieving increased visibility both within Spain and on the international stage. One of the wineries instrumental in its formation was Adegas Moure, a family with an ancient winemaking heritage that has expertly illuminated the practice of heroic viticulture. Vineyards are positioned on precipitous slopes that only the most daring and courageous viticulturists can ascend, with the aim of producing singular wines.

Born of this audacity, they present Abadía da Cova Volta, the wine that marked the beginning of the winery's story. A blend of local white varieties such as Albariño, Godello, and Treixadura that are the fruits of this distinctive heroic viticulture of the DO Ribeira Sacra. With vines located on steep terraces (52%) composed of schist and granite, all labor is necessarily manual. In the winery, grapes are carefully selected, destemmed, and gently pressed, and the resulting must ferments with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks.

The result is Abadía da Cova Volta, a wine that is fresh, approachable, and highly mineral, born from the expertise and bravery of a millenary tradition that the DO Ribeira Sacra has successfully introduced to connoisseurs around the globe. It is undoubtedly a prime example of heroic viticulture.
