About 200 Monges Reserva

200 Monges Reserva is a wine produced by Bodega Vinícola Real situated in D.O. Rioja

It is a blend of Tempranillo (85%),Graciano (10%) and Garnacha (5%) grape varieties which are grown from very old vines.
The harvest is done by hand and the grapes are transported to the winery in small 15kg boxes which ensures that they are not damaged before they reach the winery.
The grapes are destemmed before fermentation and then placed in Allier wood vats for 11 days at a temperature between 24 to 28 degrees.
They stay with their skins for an additional 25 days which contributes to the wines fine tannins and the final colour which lasts for a long time.  
The winery applies a daily pumping of three times a day and regular racking.
The aging takes place for 24 months in new French and American oak barrels that are placed in an excavated rock cave and maintained at a constant temperature and humidity.
After the aging process, the wine is moved into deposits before it is bottled. Then the wine stays for a minimum of 15-16 months in the bottle before it is released onto the market.
A marvelous wine from La Rioja with a happy medium between modern development and classic barrel aging.
It is recommended that you decant this wine at least 30 to 45 minutes before drinking.

2013

200 Monges Reserva 2013 unfolds a spectrum of intense aromas where ripe red fruits such as cherries and raspberries are prominent, interwoven with hints of tobacco and cedarwood, complemented by a subtle truffle scent. On the palate, it is full-bodied and harmonious, providing a silky and refined texture. The flavors of licorice and the noble tannins merge to create an expansive and flavorful experience, culminating in a prolonged and rich finish.
2006 On the palate the wine has a good body with noble tannins. Balanced and tasty. Notes of licorice.

Ruby in colour with a high robe.

This is a clean wine with good intense aromas. Tobacco, red berries and truffle.
2005 Very nice wine with a very intense, powerful and wide attack. A wine with a silky texture which fills the mouth of fleshy notes of fruit, toasted aromas and an outstanding liquorice. It shows a creamy and soft mid palate with balanced tannins, a perfect structure and a great balance. Long finish.

Intense and deep cherry colour with maroon edges. Bright and dense wine with a high layer dense and abundant tears.

Its intense notes of ripe red fruit remain in the nose for long. Gradually, the different notes of creamy spices, abundant tobacco and leather provided by the oak are released along with subtle herbal notes and nice toasted aromas.
2004 Good taste, with fine tannins in a cask of good breeding and very balanced. Post-gust, silky, long and elegant.
