About Viña Tondonia Blanco Reserva
Viña Tondonia Reserva Blanco is a white wine crafted by the Viña Tondonia winery in the D.O. Rioja.
This winery is located in Haro (Rioja Alta), one of the most prestigious and privileged locations for viticulture. Viña Tondonia is a historical winery, being the first in Haro and the third in Rioja. The exceptional quality of its wines stands as a true testament to its 137 years of expertise.
Viña Tondonia Reserva Blanco is part of the winery's grand tradition of white wines. These are wines with extensive aging periods, resulting in highly consistent and authentic expressions. Viña Tondonia Reserva Blanco is crafted from the Viura variety with a small percentage of Malvasía. Both varieties are indigenous to Rioja, a fundamental requirement for the winery in the production of Rioja wines.
The grapes are sourced from the Viña Tondonia estate, a majestic 100-hectare vineyard planted in 1913 on the right bank of the Ebro River as it passes through Haro. Harvesting is conducted manually with great care to ensure the clusters remain intact, preventing spontaneous fermentations. During production, fermentation occurs in small oak vats with indigenous yeasts from the vineyard over approximately 7 days. The fermentation is conducted without the skins to avoid excessive coloration.
Following vinification, Viña Tondonia Reserva Blanco undergoes an extensive aging process of 6 years in 225-litre Bordeaux oak barrels, crafted by the winery itself. During this period, the wine undergoes two rackings per year. The aging takes place in the winery's Calado, a gallery carved into the rock.
Once the aging process concludes, Viña Tondonia Reserva Blanco is bottled without filtration and clarified with fresh egg whites. Viña Tondonia Reserva Blanco is a white wine with an almost limitless bottle evolution. A truly special Rioja. Exquisite.

2001 | Satiny, very evolved. With a great acidity that promises a long life. Long finish. Yellow, clean, bright, with some golden highlights. Very elegant and complex nose. Hints of honey and dried apricots. Citrus. Lemon, orange compote. Notes of hazelnuts on a very delicate wooden background. |
|
2000 | The palate is a thick, tasty wine. Rich and round. With a magnificent acidity. Long finish. Clean and bright amber. Complex nose of medium intensity and prevalence of toasted with roasted undertones, honey, ripe fruit, apricot, peach and some citrus notes. |
|
1998 | This wine shows a bulky attack and a long mid palate with an unctuous texture, abundant notes of fruit, a great acidity and a long and persistent finish. A great white wine. The perfect companion for any occasion. Intense and beautiful golden yellow colour. Clean and very bright wine with abundant tears. Medium-high intensity nasal aromas, in which initially, the toasted aromas are dominant. Little by little, its nice notes of ripe fruit appear, completed and rounded by the hints of honey, dried apricots, nuts, ripe and dry citrus peels and soft nuances of withered white flowers. Some aromas of moisturised earth and smoke and complex and interesting subtle grassy notes are also noticed. |
|
1997 | Flavor is smooth, consistent, refined and developed. Natural amber, developed. Fine nose, complex, highly evolved but reminding the fruit. |
