About Ossian Verdling Dulce

Ossian Verdling Dulce is a young sweet wine made with the Verdejo variety by Bodega Ossian in the VT Castilla y León (Vino de la Tierra) in Segovia, Spain. At present the project is part of the prestigious winery Pago de Carraovejas.

The Ossian Verdling Dulce wine is made using grapes from old ungrafted Verdejo vines, vines that were not affected by the phylloxera plague of the late nineteenth century. These plots lie at an altitude of 900 metres, on old river terraces made up of sandy-loam soils and pebbles, which provide the grapes plenty of freshness.

The harvest takes place early and when the grapes reach optimum ripeness, which allows them to maintain their natural acidity. The bunches are destemmed and gently pressed for the must to begin fermentation at low temperatures and with their native yeasts. Fermentation is stopped by cooling so that the wine retains its natural sweetness.

Ossian Verdling Dulce is made in the style of the great German Riesling wines, hence the name Verdling a blend of the words Verdejo and Riesling. This wine has a perfect balance between residual sugar and acidity, which makes it an elegant and sweet Verdejo with a delicious semi-sweet flavour that expresses all the qualities of old Verdejo vines. In short, this is a wine of many possibilities. It is surprising and its excellent integration of freshness and sweetness has people instantly won over.
