About Matarromera Prestigio

Matarromera Prestigio is a single-variety Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) red wine produced by the Matarromera winery in the D.O. Ribera de Duero.

Founded in 1988 by Carlos Moro in the town of Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid), the Matarromera winery has 200 hectares of its own vineyards on the well-known Ribera de Duero Golden Mile. One of the area’s classic wineries that continues to make quality wines by combining tradition with innovation.

Matarromera Prestigio is made with a selection of 20-year-old vines from a single plot, planted in loamy clay soil. The vineyards cover 20 hectares and lie on 10% slopes at an altitude of between 730 and 790 metres above sea level. They use traditional agriculture and the yield is limited to between 2,500 and 5,000 kilograms per strain. The grapes are harvested by hand.

Matarromera Prestigio is vinified in a traditional way. It ferments in stainless steel tanks for about 10 days at a constant temperature of 28ºC and then it ages for 18 months in American and French oak barrels. Finally, it refines in the bottle for a minimum of 24 months before being sold.

Matarromera Prestigio is a most elegant red wine. An intense and seductive Rioja with a good balance between the fruit and wood.

2019

Matarromera Prestigio 2019 unfurls a bouquet on the nose, featuring distinct aromas of blackberries and plums, interwoven with a unique hint of Chinese ink, all enveloped in a vivacity that beckons further exploration. Upon tasting, one is struck by the enduring presence of its flavors, reminiscent of ripe fruit with a spiced undertone. Notes of clove and thyme, a legacy of its maturation in French oak barrels, embellish a robust and nuanced finish. Matarromera Prestigio 2019 is a wine of character and depth.

2017 Matarromera Prestigio 2017 is a red wine that, upon olfaction, presents a delightful bouquet of ripe fruit complemented by a distinctive hint reminiscent of Chinese ink, along with spiced and balsamic notes that contribute a refreshing quality. On the palate, it is velvety and lingering, with a luscious fruitiness refined by the presence of graceful tannins and nuanced hints of clove and thyme. This red wine boasts vigor, harmony, and profound intensity.
2016 Matarromera Prestigio 2016 is a red wine that surprises on the nose with its freshness and a characteristic nuance of Chinese ink. Intense and persistent on the palate, where the fruit is accompanied by notes of clove and thyme from its aging. A red wine that is only made in exceptional years. Mature, balanced, elegant and concentrated.
2014 Matarromera Prestigio 2014 is a concentrated red wine with spiced aromas of toast and cocoa from the barrel alongside notes of very ripe black fruits. On the palate it has an excellent balance with a meaty, intense and powerful body. It has a lingering and persistent finish.
2008 Great wine from Ribera del Duero with a very wide and bulky attack and a silky, intense mid palate with notes of very ripe fruit and spices. Its fresh balsamic aromas are noticed along with a balanced acidity. Well integrated and slightly sweety tannins. Very long and very persistent finish with a very nice aftertaste.

Very intense and dark cherry colour, with purple reflections. A clean and bright wine with a high robe and slow-falling tears.

Powerful and complex aromas. Its intense notes of ripe black fruit take centre stage and wrapped the elegant notes provided by the ageing in wood: some refined toasted notes, abundant sweet and hot spices, marked notes of cocoa and animals fur hints.
