About Matarromera Prestigio
Matarromera Prestigio is a single-variety Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) red wine produced by the Matarromera winery in the D.O. Ribera de Duero.
Founded in 1988 by Carlos Moro in the town of Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid), the Matarromera winery has 200 hectares of its own vineyards on the well-known Ribera de Duero Golden Mile. One of the area’s classic wineries that continues to make quality wines by combining tradition with innovation.
Matarromera Prestigio is made with a selection of 20-year-old vines from a single plot, planted in loamy clay soil. The vineyards cover 20 hectares and lie on 10% slopes at an altitude of between 730 and 790 metres above sea level. They use traditional agriculture and the yield is limited to between 2,500 and 5,000 kilograms per strain. The grapes are harvested by hand.
Matarromera Prestigio is vinified in a traditional way. It ferments in stainless steel tanks for about 10 days at a constant temperature of 28ºC and then it ages for 18 months in American and French oak barrels. Finally, it refines in the bottle for a minimum of 24 months before being sold.
Matarromera Prestigio is a most elegant red wine. An intense and seductive Rioja with a good balance between the fruit and wood.

2014 | Matarromera Prestigio 2014 is a concentrated red wine with spiced aromas of toast and cocoa from the barrel alongside notes of very ripe black fruits. On the palate it has an excellent balance with a meaty, intense and powerful body. It has a lingering and persistent finish. | |
2008 | Great wine from Ribera del Duero with a very wide and bulky attack and a silky, intense mid palate with notes of very ripe fruit and spices. Its fresh balsamic aromas are noticed along with a balanced acidity. Well integrated and slightly sweety tannins. Very long and very persistent finish with a very nice aftertaste. Very intense and dark cherry colour, with purple reflections. A clean and bright wine with a high robe and slow-falling tears. Powerful and complex aromas. Its intense notes of ripe black fruit take centre stage and wrapped the elegant notes provided by the ageing in wood: some refined toasted notes, abundant sweet and hot spices, marked notes of cocoa and animals fur hints. |
