About Louis Moreau Chablis
In Burgundy, the Chablis sub-region is one of the most famous white wine producing areas in the world. And although it only has a total of 4,753 hectares, its limestone soils provide a high quality Chardonnay with wonderful acidity and minerality.
Someone who knows these terroirs inside out is the Moreau family. Established in Chablis since 1814, their 54 hectares of the domain are classified in a pyramid shape in the pure Burgundy style and include all four levels of the denomination: Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis 1er Crus and Chablis Grands Crus. Louis Moreau is now the sixth generation to run the winery. A particular winemaker who, after studying enology and viticulture at Fresno State University (California) and gaining experience in different California wine domains, returned home to produce Chardonnays with unique minerality, purity and elegance.
This Louis Moreau Chablis is a coupage made from 24 hectares of vineyards dating from 1980 located in the village of Chablis. These are Chardonnay vines planted in sandy and clay soils and cultivated according to traditional viticulture. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested and taken straight to the winery to begin vinification. The grapes are firstly selected, destemmed and pressed, and the must created from the first pressing is fermented in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts at a controlled temperature for 15-18 days. Then, after an initial filtration, the wine is aged in tanks on lees for 4 months.
Purity, elegance and minerality define Louis Moreau Chablis, a white wine that well and truly justifies Chablis’ great fame and, at the same time, represents the winemaking passion of a family that has been working with these exceptional terroirs for more than two centuries.
2020 | Louis Moreau Chablis 2020 is an exquisitely profiled white wine, redolent with floral bouquets, hints of white orchard fruits, and nuanced chalky undertones. On the palate, it presents as refined, vivacious, and harmoniously balanced. This wine boasts a robust onset, a radiant acidity, and a sophisticated finish adorned with seamlessly integrated mineral nuances. |
