About Giboulot Terres Burgondes rouge

Sumptuous red berries and intricate complexity. At first glance, these attributes could be ascribed to any red wine, could they not? Yet, few reds can match the wines from the I.G.P. Sainte-Marie-la-Blanche. This village, situated approximately 8 km from Beaune, has the distinct honour of possessing its own appellation – a claim not all can make. Naturally, Emmanuel Giboulot (one of the most esteemed vignerons in the Beaune region) could not let this opportunity pass by. This, in part, is something he can afford due to the success of his enterprise, which has expanded into other areas that intrigue this winemaker. From this curiosity emerges Giboulot Terres Burgondes rouge.
 
As is common in most parts of the Burgundian south, the Côte d’Or, pinot noir is the grape variety used to craft this wine. As previously mentioned, red wines are the true stars of the region, considered to be some of the crown jewels of this French area. Indeed, historically, the wines from the I.G.P. Sainte-Marie-la-Blanche distinguished themselves from other reds of Beaune. They are a spectacle in and of themselves.
 
Giboulot Terres Burgondes rouge originates from venerable vineyards, over 65 years old, planted on the slopes of a plateau (ranging from 210 to 220 meters in altitude), bordering the Dheune valley to the south and the Saône to the east. These inclines are exceptionally beneficial for the vines, as they facilitate water runoff, ensuring well-drained soils. The rest is left to the maritime climate and the deep, clay-rich soils.
 
Giboulot Terres Burgondes rouge is cultivated using biodynamic practices. It could be no other way, since Emmanuel Giboulot, who learned everything from his father, was a pioneer in these methods, achieving in the 1980s what many still strive for today. Only through this approach can one understand the work in both the fields and the winery, where Giboulot Terres Burgondes rouge is crafted without any intervention. The pinot noir is processed and placed into fermentation tanks, where it will transform into wine with the aid of indigenous yeasts. Ultimately, Giboulot Terres Burgondes rouge will be aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.
