About Chapuis & Chapuis Pernand-Vergelesses Rouge

Nestled within the commune of Pernand-Vergelesses, to the north of the Côte de Beaune, lies one of the most captivating vineyards in southern Burgundy. Surely, it must be exceptional if the Chapuis brothers have chosen this very spot to craft their esteemed Chapuis & Chapuis Pernand-Vergelesses Rouge, wouldn't you agree?

Situated at the junction of two valleys, in close proximity to the Corton hill, this village lends its name to an appellation d'origine contrôlée renowned for producing some of France's finest wines. Few pinot noir grapes can rival those that flourish here, at altitudes ranging from 250 to 300 meters, rooted in clay-limestone soils rich in potassium and phosphoric acid. And the quality is elevated even further when the cultivation and vinification are under the meticulous care of the Chapuis brothers!

The Chapuis & Chapuis Pernand-Vergelesses Rouge is a natural wine, crafted without any chemical intervention. Embracing this philosophy, the Chapuis brothers journey to the birthplace of this movement, where in the 1980s, the concept of producing wine completely detached from industrial standards was conceived. The essential criterion was that the terroir should be palpable in the wine, revealing the unique characteristics and nuances that distinguish it. A Burgundian wine is not the same as one from Bordeaux; neither the microorganisms, soil, nor climate are identical. Consequently, indigenous yeasts (inherent to the region and present on the grape skins) are a crucial component of this innovative process. Beyond that, it's a matter of vigilance to ensure everything proceeds smoothly, harvesting at the optimal time, and being responsive to the evolving needs of the wine.

Patience also plays a significant role, particularly during the 11 months that Chapuis & Chapuis Pernand-Vergelesses Rouge must spend maturing in French oak barrels.

The talent of the Chapuis brothers is undeniable! What a magnificent wine they have produced with Chapuis & Chapuis Pernand-Vergelesses Rouge!
