About Castello di Verduno Barolo Monvigliero

Royal marriages often have significant political, social, and cultural repercussions, as they can affect alliances between countries, inheritance of thrones, and sometimes even the stability of entire nations. In the world of winemaking, more than one estate has reaped benefits from merging with another winemaking family. In the case of Castello di Verduno, an estate owned by the Burlotto family and situated in Verduno, the northernmost commune of Barolo (Italy), it saw an expansion in both size and quality of its properties when Gabriella Burlotto wed Franco Bianco, the son of a winery in Barbaresco that owns exquisite plots of superior quality. Today, under the guidance of the talented oenologist Mario Andrion, the family boasts an impressive portfolio, the crown jewel of which is Castello di Verduno Barolo Monvigliero, one of the most coveted bottlings throughout Barolo.

Sourced from a single plot atop Monvigliero hill, Castello di Verduno Barolo Monvigliero is a monovarietal of nebbiolo with vines planted in 1967 thriving in soil composed of clay, sand, and limestone known as "Marne di Sant'Agata". The vineyard is cultivated organically without the use of pesticides, and the harvest is done manually at the optimal moment of ripeness. In the winery, only the finest grapes are selected, destemmed, and crushed, and fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks with periodic punch-downs of the cap. Afterwards, the wine undergoes a lengthy refinement in large Slavonian oak barrels for 30 months and an additional 24 months in the bottle before being released.

Sweet, fragrant, and sensuous, Castello di Verduno Barolo Monvigliero captivates from the outset. A wine that speaks of its terroir with a staunchly traditional style, eschewing any hint of rusticity and unveiling a polished sophistication. Without a doubt, the great treasure of the winery.
