About Albert Bichot Chambolle-Musigny Village
The number of French vignerons, especially those from Burgundy, who are deciding to make the jump to organic farming is growing every day. More and more winegrowers in this area are choosing to keep everything that threatens the vineyard at bay by getting rid of chemical products. Although there is still some resistance, another group, which includes Albert Bichot, has been a pioneer in making this leap.
Thanks to this, Albert Bichot is still a benchmark, not only because of the legendary name (which has been linked to the world of wine since the 13th century), but also for the quality of their wines, including Albert Bichot Chambolle-Musigny Village, a single-variety Pinot Noir made in the A.O.C. Chambolle-Musigny, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits (north of the Côte d'Or). Here, right in the valley, lies this small town considered “one of the area’s gems”. Just outside the valley, on soils with low clay content (compared to others in the area) is home to the vineyards Albert Bichot uses to grow the Pinot Noir he makes this wine from. It goes without saying that in this northwest-facing area, all the work is done by hand, respecting the environment and the terroir.
The same consideration and supervision are given to the clusters Albert Bichot buys from other winegrowers in the area. Albert Bichot Chambolle-Musigny Village ferments for 28 days in thermoregulated conical oak tanks. This entire process, from harvesting to bottling, is carried out with the minimum possible intervention, respecting all the work that has been achieved in the vineyard in the winery. Finally, Albert Bichot Chambolle-Musigny Village ages for 14 to 16 months in oak barrels (some of them new).
As Albert Bichot says: “My convictions come from my travels. The main one is that wine should not harm nature or those who live around it. We should never forget that wine is not a basic necessity but a pleasure. A pleasure we can do without. Especially if it does damage. The entire vineyard must do things differently.”
